FLAGGER: Part-time, on-call positions within the utility are available from time-to-time when additions or replacements to the flagging pool are needed.  Applicants must be willing to work on an on-call basis, maintain a current flagging card issued by the state of Washington, maintain a current CPR/First Aid card and perform all flagging duties required to maintain a safe and efficient work area for PUD crews. 

JOURNEYMAN LINEMEN:  All applicants must hold a journeyman lineman’s card, be able to pass a physical examination, a written technical knowledge examination and a practical test, possess or be able to obtain a Washington state class “A” commercial driver’s license in order to operate utility trucks and have a good driving record. Successful applicants must be willing to live within 30 minutes travel time under normal conditions of their regularly assigned headquarters or live within the district’s service territory.

STUDENT TRAINEE: Part-time positions within the utility are available from time-to-time for full-time high school or college students.  Positions duties range from clerical to laborer.  The student employment program at the PUD is designed to afford practical experience in the workplace, encourage continuing education and to assist with educational expenses.

Engineering Designer

Position Summary:

The Engineering Designer provides the highest level of customer service while working with customers, agencies, and operations to process requests and provide guided assistance in the design, construction, and maintenance of the electrical distribution system.  

Responsibilities:

  • Review customer plans and advise customers on technical requirements and options pertaining to their request for service. Comply with utility policies, fee schedules, and design/construction parameters.
  • Make pro-active customer contact and foster good relations with customers and contractors in performance of customer-related duties.
  • Conduct on-site investigations to examine electrical service status and requirements.
  • Perform functions required prior to project construction including obtaining necessary easements; site surveys; staking; preparing applications for permits; coordinating with the purchasing department for the purchase of materials for larger or unusual projects; and presenting instructions during job shows.

Knowledge Skills/ Experience Required:

  • Position requires a minimum of an A.T.A. in engineering or other technical field.
  • Have the ability to interact in a courteous and respectful manner with the general public and use excellent human relations skills as a representative of the District.
  • Knowledge in use of surveying equipment, ability to read and interpret drawings, maps, legal documents, surveys and property descriptions.
  • Must have the ability to understand the District’s engineering standards, policies, materials, specifications, and procedures.
