FLAGGER: Part-time, on-call positions within the utility are available from time-to-time when additions or replacements to the flagging pool are needed.  Applicants must be willing to work on an on-call basis, maintain a current flagging card issued by the state of Washington, maintain a current CPR/First Aid card and perform all flagging duties required to maintain a safe and efficient work area for PUD crews. 

JOURNEYMAN LINEMEN:  All applicants must hold a journeyman lineman’s card, be able to pass a physical examination, a written technical knowledge examination and a practical test, possess or be able to obtain a Washington state class “A” commercial driver’s license in order to operate utility trucks and have a good driving record. Successful applicants must be willing to live within 30 minutes travel time under normal conditions of their regularly assigned headquarters or live within the district’s service territory.

STUDENT TRAINEE: Part-time positions within the utility are available from time-to-time for full-time high school or college students.  Positions duties range from clerical to laborer.  The student employment program at the PUD is designed to afford practical experience in the workplace, encourage continuing education and to assist with educational expenses.

Engineering Manager
Mason County PUD 3

Duties:

The Engineering Manager is responsible for the management, planning and development of the District’s utility electrical systems, including supervision of engineering staff, budgeting, and assistance in development of PUD policy.  This position must have a thorough knowledge of local, state and federal laws, regulations and safety codes to direct and coordinate the design, construction, and system protection of the District’s electrical transmission & distribution systems, ensuring that system reliability is maintained within the District’s objectives and system performance goals.

Knowledge skills and Abilities:

  • Technical proficiency to work with multiple operating programs including MS Office, NISC and NISC’s outage management system (OMS), MapWise, SCADA software and L&G command center software.
  • Working knowledge of NESC, WAC, ANSI, IEEE and NEC as well as local state and federal laws and regulations impacting areas of responsibility. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills to interact with all levels of the organization and general public.
  • Use excellent organizational and administrative skills in documentation, prioritization, and project management, with ability to coordinate a variety of responsibilities and activities simultaneously. 
  • Use independent and discretionary judgment to analyze and solve problems at all times.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory capabilities to effectively manage personnel while fostering a positive organizational culture through support of management decisions, District vision and values, mission and PUD policy.

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering; preferred emphasis in power.
  • Ten (10) years substantial experience in engineering, planning, design, installation and maintenance with the electric utility industry with five (5) years in a management capacity is required.
  • Current Washington State Professional Engineer (PE) license (other state PE may substitute but must have ability to acquire a WA State PE within six months of hire).

Engineering Services Supervisor

Position summary:

The Engineering Services Supervisor will be responsible to move work processes along, ensuring completion of jobs in a timely manner and provide solutions for customer problems and concerns.

Responsibilities:

  • Review customer plans, advising customers on technical requirements and options for service requests.
  • Prepare construction work plans and cost estimates for electrical line extensions and new or altered service connects.
  • Conduct onsite investigations to examine electrical service status and requirements.
  • Develop designs for system improvement and highway relocation work.
  • Prepare electrical designs for distribution upgrades and system improvement projects.
  • Work closely with and support engineering staff and other District departments by coordinating workflow to ensure prompt completion of jobs and solving customer problems. 
  • Supervise engineering designers and engineering support staff.

Knowledge skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to interact in a courteous and respectful manner with the general public and employees, using excellent human relations skills as a representative of the District.
  • Knowledge in use of surveying equipment, ability to read & interpret drawings, maps, legal documents, surveys and property descriptions.
  • Ability to understand and apply the District’s engineering standards, policies, materials, specifications, and procedures.
  • Ability to interpret and apply Washington Administrative Codes (WAC’s), WA State requirements for building codes and permitting.
  • Ability to understand District’s engineering standards, policies, materials, specifications, and procedures.
  • Skilled in the use of tools and equipment used in the engineering department.
  • Must have math skills relating to distribution line design and surveying.

Education and Experience:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in electrical, mechanical or civil engineering.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ supervisory experience is required.
  • A current Washington State Professional Engineer (PE) license desired.
