FLAGGER: Part-time, on-call positions within the utility are available from time-to-time when additions or replacements to the flagging pool are needed.  Applicants must be willing to work on an on-call basis, maintain a current flagging card issued by the state of Washington, maintain a current CPR/First Aid card and perform all flagging duties required to maintain a safe and efficient work area for PUD crews. 

JOURNEYMAN LINEMEN:  All applicants must hold a journeyman lineman’s card, be able to pass a physical examination, a written technical knowledge examination and a practical test, possess or be able to obtain a Washington state class “A” commercial driver’s license in order to operate utility trucks and have a good driving record. Successful applicants must be willing to live within 30 minutes travel time under normal conditions of their regularly assigned headquarters or live within the district’s service territory.

STUDENT TRAINEE: Part-time positions within the utility are available from time-to-time for full-time high school or college students.  Positions duties range from clerical to laborer.  The student employment program at the PUD is designed to afford practical experience in the workplace, encourage continuing education and to assist with educational expenses.

Network Administrator

Position Summary:

The Network Administrator’s role is to ensure the reliable operation, stability and integrity of voice, data, video and wireless network services.  This is achieved by planning, designing, and developing local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) across the organization.  This position will support the operation of all network related services according to District policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Configure, monitor and manage the District's networking infrastructure, ensuring proper performance and reliability.
  • Assist in managing all network, physical, and cyber security solutions.
  • Assist in managing the District’s Storage Area Network and cloud infrastructure.
  • Provide support for the patching of servers in accordance with District policy.
  • Provide support for the District’s telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Provide support for updating and maintaining the District’s phone system.
  • Assist with the analysis, design and implementation of new equipment and topologies.
  • Assist users and customers in troubleshooting technical problems and provide standard operations support.
  • Maintain documentation and monitoring of the LAN, WLAN and WAN.
  • Remain current on best practices, emerging technologies, products, and standards in support of network systems development and equipment procurement.
  • Assist with the interaction and negotiation with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
  • Support the district by performing other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills/ Experience Required:

  • Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in management information systems or computer science with a minimum of four (4) years of experience of working in information technology. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be qualifying.
  • Cisco Certification is preferred.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational and analytical skills with a basic knowledge of arithmetic required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in a professional business-like manner, both orally and in writing.  Must understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of restricted or private information and records and effectively handle sensitive matters.
  • Strong technical understanding of LANs, WANs, WLANs, VPNs, TCP/IP, subnetting, DNS, cyber-security standards, and firewall policies.
