Mason PUD 3 will have two of its linemen working in Florida as part of the power restoration efforts there after the devastation of Hurricane Irma.

evans-aaron---web.jpgcase-austin---web.jpg(SHELTON, WA) – Two Mason PUD 3 linemen are in Florida this week, taking part in a massive effort to restore electricity to millions of homes and businesses pummeled by Hurricane Irma.

PUD 3 linemen Austin Case and Aaron Evans are part of the mobilization of tens of thousands of workers to tackle massive power outages caused when Hurricane Irma landed as a Category 4 storm early Sunday.

Florida Power & Light, the state’s largest electricity company, was particularly devastated. In a Reuters news story, FPL Chief Executive Eric Silagy stated, “We’ve never had this many outages, and I don’t think any utility in the country ever has. It is by far and away the largest in the history of our company.”

“We’re proud of Austin and Aaron for their determination to do their part to help Florida recover from this disaster,” said Scott Peterson, Mason PUD 3 operations manager. “PUD 3 and its employees have a strong commitment to customer service and reliability. These linemen are a great example of the skill and work ethic that our employees strive to meet each day.”

Meanwhile, PUD 3 commissioners today authorized PUD employees to voluntarily convert a portion of their time-off into cash donations for disaster relief.
