Travel restrictions will occur in the area between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM. Rolling slowdowns in north and south lanes on the highway will ease traffic, to make the work zone safe for linemen who will be pulling the electric lines across both lanes.

(KAMILCHE, WA) -- Work on Mason PUD 3’s Totten Substation project will reach a major milestone Sunday night, May 19 as crews pull high voltage transmission lines across Highway 101 in the Taylor Town area.

The cable crossing will be at the intersection of Highway 101 and Lynch Road. Travel restrictions will occur in the area between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM. Rolling slowdowns in north and south lanes on the highway will ease traffic, to make the work zone safe for linemen who will be pulling the electric lines across both lanes.

The rolling slowdown will cover the area from the Highway 101/SR 3 interchange south of Shelton to the Hurley-Waldrip Road/101, intersection, including the Highway 108 interchange at Kamilche.

The high voltage transmission cable will eventually bring electricity to a substation being built east of Taylor Shellfish near Lynch Road.

The substation will help PUD 3 to better serve the growing appetite for power in southeast Mason County. Increased commercial and residential activity in the area is pushing the existing Skookum substation near its capacity at times.

The Totten substation will take on some of the local load from the Skookum substation, and provide added capacity for the energy needs of the area.
